winter blahs
Kids in FL visiting grandparents (long weekend -- first experience with "unaccompanied minors" flying!). Home alone with H. Richard Niebuhr hanging over my head, also Bonhoeffer, not to mention mid-term worship exam BEFORE reading week and my chapel sermon to write.... No shortage of things to do!
Tried about 5 p.m. to have coffee with a friend -- impatient kid in tow (friend's kid, not mine, obviously) -- ill-behaved kid not excited to sit with two grown-ups and listen to adult chatter, so that didn't go well...or last long...I was home by 5:15. Just as well.
My birthday over the weekend so had two fun-filled evenings with friends. Had dinner out with a friend on Friday night and saw "The Vagina Monologues" performed on the seminary campus -- well done, again -- first performance ever on a seminary campus anywhere was 2 years ago at this same seminary! Then Saturday night saw Paula Poundstone perform in Sellersville, PA -- she was a riot as expected. A really wonderful show -- and dinner out -- and a little shopping with some other friends. We even tried to see a psychic, but we found her both cranky and expensive, so we gave up on palm and tarot readings.
Tomorrow is a panel discussion on choice with 5 women from the faculty and staff. I put this together and I hope it is well-attended. I hope the professors get the respect and attention they deserve. I have to arrive late because a class conflicts, but hopefully others will oversee in my absence (I have asked them to and they have said they would, but we'll see).
Saw "Broke Back Mountain" last week and thought it was interesting and well done on the whole. I think I was a little disappointed because I expected/desired "big things" from it -- not sure what I was hoping it would do/accomplish.... Want to read the E. Annie Proulx story and see how closely the film adhered to it.
No other real plans for the next little while. Holding my own/status quo hopefully.... Off to attack my school work!
